When and Why to Work with a Trade Book Distributor

D. H. McKee   Aug 22, 2018

#amwriting #indiepublishing #bookstores Trade book distributors are the guys who sell your book to bookstores and other institutions. They don’t market your book, per se, and they don’t build your audience. They will, however, help get your book into the big stores. Here’s why that’s important: The two greatest functions of a distributor are helping […]

Heading to Bouchercon 2018 in September

D. H. McKee   Aug 20, 2018

Bouchercon is the world mystery writers convention, and it’s in St. Pete’s this year. Coincidentally, I have a place to stay in nearby Gulfport, making it cheaper to fly down there than to drive to Toronto and stay in a hotel.

This would have been a good event to visit, but I’m sticking with Bouchercon 2018 as my international conference this year. 100 Writing & Publishing Tips from the 2018 Writer’s Digest Annual Conference

Millennials vs. Gen-X

D. H. McKee   Jul 15, 2018

For those of you confused about the generational cohorts (and why shouldn’t you be confused about this arbitrary, ageist grouping of people), Pew Research Center has come up with a definite delineation, based on birth year. Finally, as the footsteps stopped just outside the igloo, it was the old man who went out to investigate. He emerged to see a disoriented figure seemingly unaware of his presence. The being was touching the […]

A great bit of narration and music from the master. Yes, I think I’ve posted this before.

New Site Update (with WordPress, no less)

D. H. McKee   Jul 06, 2018

Geez, you spend a little bit of effort upgrading the blog, switching architectures, updating images, importing some 18 years of blog posts … and you’re accused of not blogging for over a year. A guy can’t win. Seriously, though, the age of open-sourced Movable Type is over. It’s either pay five hundred bucks a year, […]

Good Password Checker

D. H. McKee   Jan 26, 2018

Reposting this on the new system because it’s a great password checker. One of my favourite Web comics, xkcd, illustrates the biggest problems I have with passwords in general, and specifically Web-based passwords, namely that they are easy to hack and difficult to remember. Worst of all are those forms which require a fixed number […]
