Got woken up at 5am this morning. A customer paged me and I misunderstood the message on my Blackberry. It said “Unsupported media type in header,” and I groggily thought this was an error message on his server. I replied that there was nothing to worry about — that the “text” file being compressed was probably not a text file, and wouldn’t be processed by the server. He replied in a panic, because that wasn’t really the issue. No, the issue was actually much more trivial. He was emailing because he saved a .tar.gz file as a .tar file. Now Windows didn’t know what it was, and couldn’t open it in Winzip. I promptly fell back asleep.
