How Pictures Become Urban Legends
Just updated a posting on one of my entries. A couple of years ago, this photographer, Mike Hollingshead, a storm chaser, made some terrific photos in Nebraska and Kansas during the summer months of 2002 and 2004 and put them on his website. Unfortunately, people took these images and attributed them to themselves, or to their friends, or to natural events that weren’t storms or tornadoes, and weren’t in Nebraska or Kansas.
The pics were probably taken and posted here originally.
The Snopes article is here.
Mike’s website is here. Congratulations, Mike, on making another interesting Internet story and many more urban legends to come. Sorry to hear about all the trouble which still plagues the pictures.
I’d like to point out that I was skeptical from the start. The pics and the story of their origin were from a friend of a girlfriend of a friend.
