New DVD Player
I may have a new DVD player. A friend of mine had a spare Pioneer player with full warranty and is willing to part with it for what seems to be a reasonable amount of cash. It seems that he was looking for a player that he could hack and thus copy DVDs to his VCR. After purchasing the Pioneer, he found that he did not have the correct codes to rip DVDs properly. I tried it out at my place using "The Abyss, Special Edition" DVD. It worked as expected, and the DVD itself was one of the most interactive and complete experiences in a single package that I have ever seen. Pictures, trailers, design documents, scripts, notes, two full versions of the film, and even cast bios and filmographies. Pretty clever trick there: sell a DVD player by providing the best DVD in the world as a demo.
