California judge rules for same-sex marriage
In a landmark decision, a San Francisco judge ruled yesterday that a California state law that effectively bans gay marriage is unconstitutional.
The ruling is the first on the constitutionality of the law that prompted San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to marry about 4,000 same-sex couples last year. Those unions were later nullified by the state Supreme Court.
