Neat Ancient History site

Livius is a non-commercial website on ancient history. Since 1996, it has been maintained by Jona Lendering from Amsterdam, Holland. He read history at Leiden University (where he graduated in 1993), specialized in Mediterranean culture at the Amsterdam Free University (until 1996), and worked at excavations in Holland (a Roman villa) and Greece (hellenistic Halos). After teaching methodology and theory at the Free University, he worked for some time as an archivist for the Dutch government. He is currently teaching ancient and Dutch history at the Free University.

Coffee = Health Drink

It is a daily routine for millions of Italians - the morning cup of espresso brewed on the kitchen hob or downed swiftly in a cafe on the way to work.
But for years their favourite way of kick-starting the day has had a bad press - most recently when it was reported that doctors had told British Prime Minister Tony Blair to drink less coffee.

Jack Fry – PI

Check this out. A cigar ad, thinly disguised as a hard-boiled PI story:
'... I was in possession of a quick smoke, a mild, creamy Ashton Corona and was about to go try my luck when my senses got the better of me. Smoking a stogie in the airplane restroom doesn't exactly get you into the "Mile High Club."'

Old CNN article on 802.11 weakness

A University of Maryland professor and his graduate student have apparently uncovered serious weaknesses in the next-generation Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) security protocol known as 802.1x.
A session hijacking can occur because of the so-called race conditions between the 802.1x and 802.11 state machines. Arbaugh uses the analogy of a thief and a store owner racing for the front door at the same time. If the owner gets there first he locks the thief out, if the thief gets there first he steals everything. Because the client and the AP aren't synchronized, "loose consistency," the thief can tell the owner/client to go away and the AP still thinks he is there.

IEEE 802.11 Chair on WEP Security

Recent reports in the press have described the results of certain research efforts directed towards determining the level of security achievable with the Wired Equivalent Privacy algorithm in the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN standard. While much of the reporting has been accurate, there have been some misconceptions on this topic that are now spreading through the media. Befitting the importance of the issue, I am inclined to make a response from the Chair to clarify these issues with the following points ...
